All about the breed of MorkiesWhat is a Morkie?

Morkies are a hybrid or “mixed” breed of dog that is created when a purebred Maltese is bread with a purebred Yorkshire Terrier (Yorkie).

The mix of two already small breeds of dogs, the adult Morkie typically grows to a weight of only 8-10 pounds. Some grow to an adult size of only 6-8 pounds, these Morkies are often referred to by breeders as “Teacup Morkies”. Teacup Morkie Puppies are VERY small when they come home from the breeder and need extra attention especially when brining them into a home with other established adult dogs and other animals who have been living there a while including cats.

Because Morkies are not a purebred dog that is recognized by the American Kennel Club, buying a Morkie puppy can be a little tricky. It is recommended that you verify from the breeder that the parents of the pup are a purebred Maltese and a Purebred Yorkie.

Checking that each parent is AKC registered is about the only way to verify that you are receiving an actual Morkie puppy. You’re also going to wan to get several reverences from your breeder from past customers.

Teacup Morkie Puppies - What you should know.Teacup Morkies

Teacup Morkies are the smallest of the crossbreed of dogs known as Morkies. Their exact description tends to vary from breeder to breeder, but universally they are described as Morkies that reach an adult weight of around 6-7 pounds.

What does this mean? Teacup Morkies are extremely small dogs, especially the Teacup Morkie puppies. As puppies, they are very tiny, and have a frail bone structure. In fact, their bones are so weak that they may break when simply playing with full grown dogs or other animals. Some breeders and kennel owners recommend to actually separate these pups with your other animals until they reach 5-6 pounds.
